New: CoVid Testing & Isolation for Under 5s

Please note the most recent guidance for children under 5 years old:
  • It is no longer recommended that under 5s are tested for CoVid.
  • Welsh Government Guidance states “Where children under 5 do have symptoms we would not routinely recommend tests unless directed to do so by a doctor or if parents believe a test is absolutely necessary and in the best interests of the child.”
  • If a child, under the age of 5, has any symptoms of CoVid (high temperature, new cough or loss of taste/smell) then the guidance states that he/she should isolate for 10days and should not attend school. The isolation should start from the onset of symptoms.
  • Following this period, the child can return to school, unless they develop new symptoms in which case, they must isolate for a further 10days.
  • Children under 5, identified as a close contact of a positive case of CoVid, will not be advised to take a test, but parents should be vigilant in looking for any signs of symptoms.
If a child under 5 develops a symptom of CoVid whilst at school, you will be asked to collect him/her as soon as possible and he/she will not be able to return to school for 10days. If parents then choose to test (PCR only), although not recommended, and the PCR returns negative then the child can return to school.
Many thanks for working with us and following the guidance as we strive to reduce the spread.
