Dear Parents/Carers, Over the past few days, I have received numerous calls from concerned parents about WhatsApp groups that seem to be circulating amongst Year 6 and possibly Year 5. The content being shared within the messages is rather alarming – from the use of extremely inappropriate language to messages which could be viewed as cyber bullying. The recommended age limit to access WhatsApp is 13years old and therefore primary children are deemed to be too young to be accessing the site. If your child uses WhatsApp, I would urge you to regularly check the content/messages being shared, monitor it’s use and report anything offensive to the police. I have asked our police liaison officer, PC Stu to come into school next week, to talk to the children about the appropriate use of such sites and staying safe online. I will also be speaking to the children and reminding them that if they see/read anything on social media sites such as WhatsApp that makes them feel uncomfortable, then they should tell a trusted adult immediately.
