Years 5 & 6: Alun in Deep Sea Discovery

Today Alun class have taken part in a project looking at deep sea exploration.
Last week we looked at the different layers of the ocean and marine life who live there . This morning, children focussed on creatures who live in the darkest abyss. They sorted them into categories based on their own criteria.
Next, they played the role of an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and tried to pick out objects from the deep sea with a variety of attachments. They even tried this blindfolded!
After lunch, they made their own success criteria for what a ROV should have and explained reasons why the vehicle would need this. Children even designed their own vehicles with annotated drawings.
We finished the day with a competition to see who could make a grabber to collect a sea specimen from the furthest distance away. Everyone has had a fantastic day!
