News: Attendance

Annwyl Pawb, As you know school closely monitors the attendance of all children.  We have an obligation, following school policy, to inform parents when their child’s attendance is low (below 90%). I realise this term many children have been absent due to holidays and illness and I have no doubt that with time their attendance will improve, however, in the meantime I have to share the information with you.    Regular attendance at school is important for all children in Wales because it can set can help them to develop social skills, a sense of belonging, and the skills they need to succeed in life :

  • Academic success Children who attend school regularly learn more and achieve more. Poor attendance can lead to falling behind in learning and feelings of frustration.
  • Social and emotional wellbeing Regular attendance can help children develop social skills and a sense of belonging. Poor attendance can lead to social isolation and behavioral and social problems.
  • Future success Regular attendance can help children graduate and find good jobs. Poor attendance can increase the likelihood of not being in education, employment, or training after leaving school.

The Welsh Government encourages pupils to attend school for at least 97% of the school year. Parents can help by:

  • Staying in touch with the school and reporting absences promptly
  • Ensuring their child arrives to school on time
  • Raising concerns with the school as early as possible

Once again, this year we are running the Class Attendance Awards whereby classes can earn £10 vouchers to spend on resources for their classes if they have the highest attendance rate for the week. So far this year, Sapphire class are in the lead. Come on everyone – you can help and all you have to do is come to school everyday (if you are well enough of course!)  If your child is absent from school please ensure you contact school.   Diolch, Mrs Billington
