Bore Da Pawb,
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!
It was lovely to welcome everyone back into school this morning. There were lots of smiles and excited faces, with the children eager to share their news with staff.
This term our theme is “Animal Antics” and the children will be questioning “Should animals live in Zoos?”
Early Years will be focusing on the animals that live in our gardens
Years 1 & 2 are learning all about animals that live in the Arctic & Antarctic
Years 3 & 4 are concentrating on animals that live in the jungle
Years 5 & 6 are focussing on animals that we would see out on safari
Throughout the theme, we will be discussing our moral obligations to ensure the survival of different species and asking the children how we, as a school, can make a difference.
During the theme, the children will be writing letters, creating leaflets and participating in discussions to share their views. In Maths they will be focussing on measuring area and perimeter, along with completing data handling activities.
We’ve started today with our entry point activities and this afternoon classes will be watching movies relevant to the theme, such as Happy Feet, The Lion King and Jungle Book. Mrs Sear’s class have already turned themselves into Emperor Penguins and are protecting their eggs!
To finish the theme, we have trips to the zoo booked for all year groups in April – please contact school if you have not received the information letter.
In addition, this term, we will of course be celebrating St David’s Day with a new “Eisteddfod” and are introducing a brand new programme to improve number fluency, called “Winning with Numbers” which we are very excited about – more information to follow.
It’s all set to be a busy start to the year, but I have no doubt that the children will love what we have planned (after all they’re involved in the planning processes)!
Support from parents and families is always welcomed – if you feel that you can support us in any way with our theme, please do contact your child’s class teacher.
Diolch,
Mrs Billington
