News: Year 3 End of Day Time Consultation

Annwyl Pawb,
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the smooth and effective operation of Park CP, Governors are proposing a small change to the end of the school day for children in Year 3 from September 2026.
The proposal is to change the Year 3 finishing time from 3:15pm to 3:05pm. There would be no change to the start of the school day, which would remain at 8:55am.
The reason for this proposal is that next academic year we will have a mixed Year 2/3 class (more details to follow). As Year 2 pupils already finish at 3:05pm, having two different collection times within the same classroom presents practical challenges and can be disruptive to the end of the school day. Aligning the finish times would create greater consistency for pupils, staff and families.
We appreciate that some parents may have children in other classes will also be finishing at 3:05pm, and it’s impossible to be at two different sites at once! Should the proposal be approved, arrangements will be put in place to accommodate this. Year 3 pupils will remain safely supervised by school staff and engaged in appropriate activities whilst parents collect siblings from other areas of the school and make their way around the building. No child will be left unattended and we will ensure that the transition is managed safely and positively.
We appreciate that some parents may have concerns about the impact this change could have on learning time. Please be assured that, should the proposal be approved, class timetables will be carefully reviewed and adjusted to ensure that Year 3 pupils continue to access a broad, balanced and high-quality curriculum. The school will continue to deliver the full requirements of the Curriculum for Wales, with no reduction in the quality of teaching, learning opportunities or curriculum experiences available to children. Governors and school leaders are satisfied that the proposed change can be implemented without any detrimental impact on pupils’ education.
Governors are now commencing a consultation period and would welcome your views on the proposal. Full details of the proposal will be sent to parents directly via MCAS.
Any comments, questions or feedback should be submitted by email to [email protected] or alternatively by using the messaging feature on MCAS.
Please include “Year 3 School Day Consultation” in the subject line of your email.
The consultation period will remain open until 3pm on Monday 22nd June 2026, after which Governors will consider all responses before making a final decision.
Thank you for taking the time to share your views and for your continued support of the school. Further information regarding the class organisation including mixed year group classes will be shared shortly.
Kind regards,
Mrs Billington
